Interestin information on a slower wedding market

From a forum I am on...
Don't know if it is precise or not. Could be something to consider...
"...are about 23% fewer people of 'marring age' than there were throughout the 1990's. For example, in 1997, the age group of people 25 - 29 years of age (generally agreed to be most of our brides and grooms) represented 4.5% of the population. THIS year they are only 3.5% of the population... nearly a 23% decrease. The main reason seems to be that about 27 years ago parents decided to have only one or two children instead of the three or four that was more normal before that.

Another factor is the tendency of couples to get married after age 25 instead of at a younger age. Add to the above the fact that in the last 15 years, many people decided to get into the wedding industry as a profession. It was a growth industry and really booming. For instance, in 1991 the average price for a 5 your wedding photography coverage was about $1,200. By 1999 this same coverage was $1,500 and in 2002 had grown to $2,200. In 1985 there were about 25 wedding photographers in the Sacramento area and now there are more than 140!

So, few brides getting married later in life plus many more vendors and the average photographer is having a tough 3 or 4 years. More evidence of this is very slow winter numbers. Couples are able to book a nice place in the Summer/Fall season so have no reason to plan a winter wedding. Winter weddings were mostly the result of a scarcity of reception facilities. There are more facilities now and fewer couples resulting in fewer winter weddings. "
