"Since everything reflects, I moved a medium sized fill card in very close to her face. This card could be considered as a 'bounce' card, but since it is in the shade, the 'bounce' is pretty minimal. What it does though, is to provide a bright, white surface for Laura's shadow side of the face to reflect. Skin reflects. Laura's shadow side is now reflecting a light surface instead of the dark porch. The ratio moves to more even 1.3:1 with the open sky being only a third brighter than the shadow side of her face."
