Something like this happened near us a while back. In the local middle school, one kid - a Boy Scout - accidentally brought his pocket knife to school in his backpack.
Realizing the problem, he immediately took it to the office, so that they could hold it for him. Their response? They suspended him. No tolerance = no intelligence.
