What if when you did a shoot for an art director you sent him a framed - or matted... no skip that, frame it - image. Maybe one that you had that she loved. Maybe one you took of him on the set. Maybe - maybe... and we're not talking 16x20's here... jsut a simple 3x5 / 4x6. Clever, but not too clever, frame - hell, you could have a couple of dozen engraved with your website if you are feeling a tad insecure... Me - just a simple frame (Target's got a ton of very nice little frames).
Do you think they would readily toss it (not as easy to do when it is such a thoughtful gift) like they do the postcards they keep getting? Nope.
Not every shoot, mind you. And probably not every AD... but think about it.
What if everytime you shot you added an image or two to your "book" file. You know, the 'book' you should be writing. How you solved that problem, your pick, their pick, a couple of shots of the set and two - three paragraphs. How the heck long could that take? Not very.
After a year, and years are a lot shorter now- have you noticed that? - you will have 50 - 80 - I dunno, hundred or so shots you have done, paragraphs you have written, knowledge you can impart. Send the whole thing to CafePress and have them make you a book. Offer it for sale. Put a few in your studio.
Folks come in... "Nice studio. Hey, you wrote a book?"
"Yes" you say with great humility, "and I am working on a new one."
Needless to say, your credibility and the 'cool factor' of working with you just went up a notch or three.
What if... (more coming)
