ProPhotoResource.com - Photography Websites: Myths and Truths about SEO:

"What is it?
Searching for your name and finding your website is not SEO. Why? Because if someone already knows your name, they probably know how to find you. The point of SEO is unsolicited web traffic. For example, you might want your website to be the first result for “Chicago wedding photographer” or “grand canyon aerial image.”

SEO is a technique for ranking higher in web searches, and there are many different factors that go into improving your SEO. There are “on-page” factors like ensuring that you have unique and descriptive page titles, or relevant keywords in your content and website meta data. There are also “off-page” factors like the number of people that link to your website. You can work towards building these factors over time to increase your visibility and ranking in search engines."
